Md. Altaf Hossain works in the Department of Applied Food Science and Nutrition, Faculty of Food Science and Technology at Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) as an academic, researchers, consultant, and practitioner in Dietetics and Public Health Nutrition. His areas of research interest are Maternal, Perinatal and Pediatric Nutrition; Metabolic Disorder; Community and Public Health Nutrition; Dietary Bioactive Components; Nutritional Epidemiology and Food Safety.

Hossain gained a BSc (Hons) in Food Science and Technology, an MSc in Applied Human Nutrition and Dietetics at CVASU. His recent work has focused on the impact of Dietary Bioactive Components on Metabolic Disorders, and additionally, the impact of Diet and Environmental factors for Maternal, Perinatal, and Pediatric health. He has been conducting hands-on training to rural dwellers in collaborating with some National and International NGOs, to ensure food as well as the nutritional security of children and women of Bangladesh.
