The faculty

Administrative activities for the FBGE began in 2020, while academics are set to start in December 2024. Currently, there are 16 faculty members in the Faculty of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (FBGE) across five departments. “B.Sc. (Honors) in Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (BGE)” is a 4 years technical degree (distributed in four years of 8 semesters) including 3 month internship program which is comprised of 160 credits (Theory: 106, Practical: 41, Viva: 2, Report Writing: 2, and Internship: 9).   BGE program is designed to produce high profile day one skilled graduates in this field to satisfy the growing demand in the field of cellular and molecular biology, genomics and bioinformatics, bio-process and genetic engineering, industrial and environmental biotechnology at home and abroad. The Faculty is overseen by a Dean, appointed for a two-year term based on the seniority of the professors within the Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering disciplines. It provides a range of theoretical and practical courses across five departments.

Departments

The FBGE is composed of five respective departments that offer various undergraduate courses in a 4-year program.

  1. Department of Cellular and Molecular Biology (CMB)
  2. Department of Industrial Biotechnology (DIB)
  3. Department of Environmental Biotechnology (DEB)
  4. Department of Bioprocess and Genetic Engineering (BGE)
  5. Department of Genomics and Bioinformatics (DGB)

Dr. Mohammad Lutfur Rahman
Professor and Dean
Faculty of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering

I am truly delighted to extend a warm welcome to the Faculty of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (FBGE), Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chattogram, Bangladesh.

I would like to thank everyone who made a significant contribution to the decision to establish this newly launched faculty at CVASU's research and farm-based campus, situated in the lovely, green landscape of Hathazari, Chattogram.

This faculty has a well-decorated academic building that houses five academic departments and five labs, 16 dedicated teachers, and an up-to-date curriculum. It is currently awaiting the first batch of students to arrive on campus, whose presence will complete our community.

I am proud of my young, energetic and esteemed faculty members and confident that their dedication to teaching, research and mentorship drive this faculty to achieve the vision and goals of CVASU.

The curriculum is focused on allowing the students to acquire up-to-date knowledge, skills in laboratory techniques, critical thinking and problem-solving ability, teamwork, leadership, and communication to meet the current and coming challenges of society.

I'm keen on keeping up and enhancing CVASU's academic reputation, which has created a culture of intellectual curiosity, partnership, and hands-on learning since its inception.

I am committed to facilitating open communication and collaboration among students, faculty, staff, and our partners in industry. By working together, we will establish linkages between academia and real-world problems, making sure that our research and innovations meet the demands of our community and beyond.
