Antar Sarkar is a dedicated fisheries scientist hailing from Chattogram, the vibrant port city of Bangladesh. As the elder son of Mr. Litan Sarkar and the late Trisna Sarkar, Antar has nurtured a profound connection to his homeland and its aquatic resources. Antar completed his B.Sc. (Hons) in Fisheries and his MS in Fisheries Resource Management from the prestigious Faculty of Fisheries at Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU). His academic journey has equipped him with a robust foundation in fisheries science and resource management.

In June 2024, Antar was appointed as a Lecturer at the Department of Fisheries Resource Management at CVASU. Prior to this role, he gained invaluable experience as a Research Assistant on multiple high-impact projects funded by renowned organizations such as USAID and the World Bank. These projects honed his expertise in research planning, scientific writing, project management, grant writing, and budgeting.

Antar excels in data analysis, utilizing advanced statistical tools like SPSS, R, and STATA. His technical proficiency extends to designing and implementing technology-based, intensive fish farming systems and strategies for the conservation of threatened aquatic species and pollution assessment. Throughout his career, Antar has been actively involved in technology-driven aquaculture and the conservation of endangered aquatic organisms. He has also worked closely with rural and vulnerable communities in the coastal and hill tract regions of Bangladesh, contributing to improving their livelihoods through sustainable practices.

Research Interests: Antar's research interests are diverse and impactful. They include:

  • Aquatic Ecology and Conservation

  • Intensive Aquaculture and Fisheries Management

  • Aquatic Pollution Assessment and Mitigation

  • Population Dynamics and Invasive Species Management

Looking ahead, Antar is eager to expand his research horizons and collaborate on groundbreaking initiatives that address global challenges in fisheries and aquatic ecosystem management. He aspires to contribute significantly to the development of innovative, sustainable aquaculture solutions that enhance aquatic resource conservation.
