After successful completion of his tenure at University Malaysia Terengganu, she joined as an Assistant Professor at Department of Aquaculture, Faculty of Fisheries, Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Bangladesh.
Dr Helena’s research interests include the use of microalgae as bioremediator and feed for aquaculture, use of photobioreactors for mass culture of microalgae, and the extraction of lipid from the microalgae, and biofloc technology. She has received several research grants from the ministry of science and technology, Malaysia for her project. Recently she is serving as a co-researcher in the prestigious project entitled “Isolation, identification, and optimization of freshwater and marine indigenous microalgae from Peninsular Malaysia” funded by Malaysia-Japan Collaborative Research SATREPS (JICA-JST) on COSMOS 2016-2020, Japan. She has also supervised the number of postgraduate students.
To date, she has published more than 60 publications in highly reputable international journals and proceedings. Products from her research have been recognized and achieved 17 gold medals and 6 silver medals from various national and international exhibition competitions. Dr. Helena has patented four research products related to the aquaculture industry.
